My Three Favourite Laneways in Melbourne

1. Number One has to includean authentic Melbourne Coffee Experience. There’s no other choice for me: Vittoria coffee.

Walking down Desgraves Street towards a class I was taking at the CAE, I ordered a strong latte from the little cafe across the road. (A safe way to tell who serves this grind by the very Italian-looking sign they stick out of their cafes).  I’m not kidding–it was the best coffee I’ve had yet. I didn’t even have sugar in it!

The only downside for me is that I can only get to half the places in this laneway during corporate hours–which is when I’m usually working. And on the weekends, they are usually closed.

2. A friend showed me her favourite breakfast alley way: Hardware Lane. You can get massive, very tasty, breakfasts for under $10–check it out! I’ve been back for nice gnocchi and jazz in the streets in the evenings.

3. Tattersall’s Lane (off Lt. Bourke’s “China Town”) has “Shanghai Dumplings”, which I eat at a lot. Poor hygiene history gossip aside, this place is always packed with regulars and they have done a lot of renovations in the past year. It’s yum! I want to try the Indian food place across the street sometime.

So there are my top three. Apparently I like mornings, so it’s too bad I usually have to work through them!

I still haven’t made it up to Bennett’s Lane to the famous jazz club but I plan to.
