It was nice to see the media responding to the complaints made on Channel Nine’s coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. In our last post, we discussed the Australian coverage of the Winter Olympics. Unfortunately with the homophobic comments, and the patronizing behaviour of Eddie McGuire and Mick Malloy, there was very little reason to want to watch the Olympics from Australia.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a female hosting the night time coverage yesterday – “Vancouver Gold” and it was such a nice change. She did a wonderful job and they even showed a variety of sports. Eddie even managed an afternoon interview with “The Great One – Wayne Gretsky” without messing it up!
Well done to Channel Nine for responding to the viewers complaints. I just hope to see the day time crew back on the night time show tonight to watch the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games!

JOANNIE ROCHETTE SHOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED THE BRONZE MEDALIN THE ICE-SKATING, IT SHOULD HAVE WENT TO M. NADASHU. ROCHETTE SKATED WELL IN SHORT PROGAM BUT IN THE LONG PROGRAM HER LANDINGS WERE NOT GOOD ON 2 OF THE JUMPS AND HER ROUTINE WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND DID NOT FLOW WELL. NADASHU LANDED HER JUMPS AND DID EXTRA ONES FOR BONUS POINTS HER ROUTINE WAS CLEAN AND DESERVING OF THE BRONZE MEDAL INSTEAD OF RANKING #4,WHERE ROCHETTE SHOULD HAVE PLACED. IT IS FELT BY OTHER CANADIANS AND MYSELF THAT ROCHETTE ONLY RECEIVED THE MEDAL BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF HER MOTHER, THOUGH VERY SAD, HER SKATING DID NOT EARN HER THE MEDAL AND CANADIANS ARE SURPRISED THAT THIS WOULD TAKE PLACE AT THE OLYMPICS WHERE MEDALS ARE TO BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO EARN IT, NOT THOSE WHO GET A MEDAL BECAUSE OF WHAT SEEMS TO BE BASED ON SYMPATHY. ROCHETTE SHOWED A LOT OF COURAGE BY STILL SKATING AT THE OLYMPICS AND THIS IS WHAT WON PEOPLES HEARTS, AND WHAT MOST LIKELY GOT HER THE BRONZE, WHICH PROBABLY WOULD HAVE GONE TO NADASHU IF ROCHETTE HADN’T SUFFERED SUCH A LOSS.
HOW COULD THE JUDGES NOT GIVE HER A MEDAL!
Thanks for your comment Debbie. Yes it was a tough call and I think many would agree with you that Rochette did not have a great performance on the final day. I definitely feel for Nadashu as she did skate so well but I think the artistic nature and passion felt in Rochette’s skate, plus her lead from the short program, brought her through to the Olympic Bronze. There are a lot of tough calls in skating, and I feel for all the figure skaters but I guess that is the sport and they know what is involved when they start skating.
